Estimator

OVERALL RESPONSIBILITIES

 The estimator position is responsible for residential takeoffs for all material projects.  This incumbent reviews plans and specifications relative to the schedule and scope of work and works closely with the salespeople to coordinate construction projects and paperwork.  Estimators will be able to read blueprints, utilize computer for blueprint takeoffs, communicates with builders, do it yourself homeowners and the sales team.

      Required Skills

      Has the ability to analyzes blueprints and other documents to develop material list and cost estimate sheets for the sales department and customers.  This individual will review plans and specifications related to the schedule and scope of work.  Effective communication skills; must be able to clearly communicate with sales department, builders, and do it yourself homeowners.  Effectively presents information and respond to questions from management, customers, and sales team.  Computer skills are required.

      • Estimating Specialist tasks include:

        • Developing and completing design details from original concept drawings and preparing material lists and layouts.
        • Ensuring conformance to all relevant building codes.
        • Interpreting and planning design requirements as indicated by procedures, design manuals, and other applicable specifications.
        • Generating and providing accurate and timely price estimations.
        • Generating layouts for final construction.
        • Reviewing and optimizing design(s) for the most efficient and profitable use of equipment, inventory, and manpower.
        • Ensuring design accuracy, efficiency, and conformance to standards.
        • Assist production and sales teams with design service and troubleshooting.
        • Handles customer’s questions and complaints in a timely professional manner.

      Truss Designer

      OVERALL RESPONSIBILITIES

      Description/Job Summary

      Roof & Floor Truss and/or Wall Panel Designers must read architectural prints to create roof & floor truss placement layouts and/or wall panels conforming to current Berry Home Center design practices, design of roof and floor trusses using MiTek software ensuring designs are accurate, optimized, and conforms to the current P&P, specify all necessary supplied hardware, maintain complete and updated Job Tracking Sheet, send approval letter to customers according to P&P procedures when necessary, provide sales and customer support when necessary, ensure office and plan are maintained in a neat and orderly fashion and all plans are logged properly, and attend required meetings and participates in committees as requested by supervisor(s).

      Responsibilities/Duties

      • Read architectural prints to create roof and floor truss placement layouts conforming to current Berry Home Center design practices.
      • Design of roof and floor trusses in engineering software ensuring designs are accurate, optimized, and conforms to the current P&P.
      • Specify all necessary supplied hardware.
      • Maintain complete and update Job Tracking Sheet.
      • Provide sales and customer support when necessary.

       

      PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

      Required Experience

      • At least 1 year of direct experience designing floor & roof trusses and/or wall panels.
      • Ability to read and interpret architectural and structural blueprints.
      • Ability to calculate tributary loads, concentrated loads, and load transfer through a building.
      • Ability to operate a computer and current software used by company knowledge of current local codes associated with truss design.
      • Good written and oral communication skills.
      • Ability to read, understand and follow oral and written instructions.
      • Ability to deal courteously with customers, co-workers and construction personnel.
      • Good math skills including, but not limited to architectural units, fractions, geometry and basic trigonometry.

       

      Preferred Education

      Associate’s Degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school; or 6 months to 1 year of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience

Berry Iron and Metal Company is now hiring Truck Drivers to be based out of Princeton, WV servicing our sister company Recycle WV. These positions offer steady, year-round work in well-maintained equipment consisting of primarily local runs.

      Truck Driver tasks include:

      Operation of trucks in a safe and courteous manner including safe delivery and deposit of containers/trailers to the supplier and pick up of containers/trailers and delivery to the designated site for recycling on a daily basis.

      • Operation of dump trailers.
      • Completion of a pre/post trip inspection of vehicle each operating day.
      • Securing loads safely and correctly before leaving the facility or a customer jobsite.
      • Checking trailers and all equipment for damage before delivery and pick up.
      • Checking the loads for proper weight distribution and securement.
      • Communicating via cell phone with customer personnel for directions.
      • Cleaning of truck and trailers.
      • Ensuring all products are correctly accounted for on daily paperwork.
      • Ensuring that all paperwork is turned in to Plant Clerk daily.
      • Complying with company Safety Regulations and Procedures Policy.
      • Maintaining DOT Daily Driver Logs and submission to Superintendent as required.
      • Assisting in loading and unloading of trucks, maintenance, and general labor as required.
      PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
      • Class A CDL Required.
      • Minimum of 2 years driving experience.
      • No major accidents in the past 3 years & minimal moving violations.
      • Experience with dump trucks a plus.
      • Experience and ability to operate other heavy equipment is a plus.
      • Ability to pass a criminal background check as well as a drug screen.
      • Sound knowledge of all DOT Regulations.
      • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
      • Must be able to stand/walk for 1-2 hours a day.
      • Must be able to sit for 8-10 hours while driving and loading/unloading the tractor-trailer.
      • Ability to work outdoors with temperature/climate changes

      Scale Operator / Scrap Inspector

      • Take picture of material, input numbers given by drivers/customers, capture gross and tare weights, choose the correct commodity of inbound and outbound loads and ensure compliant weight of outbound trucks.
      • Ensure customer specifications are met when shipping outbound materials and ensure customer pricing is correct before finishing transaction.
      • Inspection and grading of incoming materials.
      • Maintain a high level of internal and external customer service.
      • Communicate effectively with transportation, customers, management and yard employees using cell phone, two-way radio, and CB radio.
      • Report fraudulent activity, report all accidents and injuries timely, etc.
      • Assist customers in unloading and other general labor as required.
      • Other duties as assigned.

      Transportation Manager

      Position Overview

      • Manage growing fleet of 30+ trucks and drivers.
      • Scheduling drivers, determining equipment requirements and resolving driver, supplier and service issues.
      • Develop and implement strategies for least cost routing and route optimization.
      • Review driver performance on a weekly basis in order to provide feedback and improve performance.
      • Source qualified haulers for each location requiring 3rd Party to meet operational requirements.
      • Negotiate rates with 3rd Party haulers for both internal, supplier and consumer trips.
      • Review 3rd Party Freight haulers effectiveness by analyzing cost and performance data with internal and other vendors.
      • Review, analyze and communicate freight costs, light loads, overweight loads and driver performance to respective yards, the commercial team and management.
      • Ensure that maximum load weights are attained and proper equipment is utilized at each location.
      • Manage freight payment terms, update and maintain alternate freight database tables if required and ensure that invoices are reviewed for accuracy.
      • Coordinate freight with Commercial Team so that backhauls and other synergies between inbound and outbound freight are maximized.
      • Look for opportunities to utilize all resources across the groups by understanding equipment, scheduling and other resource management so that dead freight is minimized.
      PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
      • Minimum of three years’ experience in the development, administration and management of a high volume transportation/trucking organization.
      • Bachelor’s degree preferred (logistics, business, or related field).
      • Understanding of DOT, State, and Local regulations, and the ability to successfully apply and communicate these regulations.
      • Strong safety mindset and a proven record of safety improvements.
      • Minimum of two years’ experience managing and supervising people.
      • Ability to organize and administer a complex transportation program at multiple locations, including contracted services.
      • Experience in recycling, waste or heavy hauling environment preferred.
      • Extensive experience with Microsoft Excel; experience with computer-aided dispatch systems preferred.
      • Six Sigma or other analytical experience desirable.
